Smokey was born in the first week of June 1997. I got him from a pet shop for the princely sum of $20 (less $12) on 17th July of that, in exchange for a guinea pig who'd originally been obtained from the same place as a companion for Bandit; this experiment was not a success as the cavy continually expressed amorous intentions towards her and thus placed her under extreme stress.
Some months later it became mandatory to separate them as he came into sexual maturity, with the expected results: mounting and spraying. I eventually had to have him neutered. The operation was very successful and within the week he had stopped his "antisocial" behaviour.
Smokey is perhaps the most timid of the three rabbits but will occasionally approach his human for grooming, and will definitely mob said human when the snack-box comes out.
Smokey and Bandit now share a handbuilt double-decker cage and, being bonded, are very affectionate towards each other. He also tolerates the presence of Misty and sometimes grooms her.
